On the 28th of February
and the 1st and 2nd of March 2003, the Cartier Quartet
participated in an original recording of works by the Canadian composer
Oleksa Lozowchuk. The work entitled “Bright Sadness” was written for cello,
bass, string quartet, sopilka and mixed choir. Liturgical in character, the
work mixes two worlds: the Oriental and the Occidental, with innovative
writing inspired by folklore and psalms, which reveals a deep and pointed
reflection on musical thought and humanity. This was a very exciting and
enriching experience for the Cartier Quartet. We’d like to take this
opportunity to salute organizer’s Oleksa’s artist talent during this
beautiful adventure.
